PHIVIDEC locators secure RE through Filinvest’s solar power project in MisOr

Misamis Oriental, 26 July 2023 – Locators in PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental (PIE-MO), one of the country’s major economic zones, will soon have access to renewable energy via the planned solar power project of the Filinvest Group. Through the subsidiary FDC Green Energy Corporation (FDCGEC), Filinvest will develop an 11.5-megawat peak solar power project within the industrial area.

FDCGEC is a wholly owned subsidiary of FDC Utlites, Inc. (FDCUI), the utlity arm of the Filinvest Development Corporaton (FDC).

“Filinvest was awarded by the Department of Energy a solar energy operatng contract to develop an 11.5 MWp solar power project within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate that can operate for 25 years.

Filinvest will earmark over half a billion pesos for this investment,” said Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDCUI and FDCGEC. “With this project, PIE-MO can atract more locators actvely seeking alternatve energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Roxas highlighted.

FDCGEC formally registered as a PHIVIDEC locator to kickstart the project’s permitng process. The registraton was well-received by PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate Administrator Aty. Joseph Donato Bernedo.

“This is a very tmely project given the diferent challenges climate change brings. Moreover, it is in accordance with the thrust of President Marcos’s administraton to shif towards alternatve clean, renewable energy,” said Bernedo.

PHIVIDEC, located in the Northern Mindanao region, is home to numerous manufacturing and industrial companies that contribute signifcantly to the country’s economy. Bernedo appreciates the Filinvest Group for expanding its business in the area.

“This is a very good project to have here in PHIVIDEC, and we are very grateful to FDC for the opportunity. Moreover, FDC has a good history with PHIVIDEC for always providing quality and responsible service not only to the province of Misamis Oriental but to the entre island of Mindanao,” noted Bernedo.

The solar project involves the installaton of more than 20,000 monocrystalline solar panels that will produce almost 17,000 Mwh of clean energy annually.

The project has several advantages for PHIVIDEC locators and the surrounding community. With an estmated CO2 savings of more than 11,000 tons annually, it will help reduce the environmental impact
of industrial operatons while providing a sustainable and cost-efectve energy soluton. Apart from environmental benefts, it also enhances the reputaton of PHIVIDEC as an eco-responsible industrial hub. As for its neighboring communites, the project will generate more than 200 jobs during construction and maintenance.

This solar power project in Misamis Oriental is the frst of the many utlity-scale solar projects of Filinvest in the region. In its pipeline are 11 MW Cotabato Solar and 30 MW GenSan Solar.

“Filinvest is ready to take on the challenge of providing more power. Our company is committed to pursuing solar power projects in the region. We’re ready to invest more to take a step towards a greener and more prosperous future for both business and the environment,” capped Roxas.
