The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed constructing a P24.4 million flood control project that will prevent flash flooding in the coastal municipality of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the 1,112-lineal meter revetment wall now protects Barangay Tomongtong from the damaging effects of storm surges and unexpectedly high sea levels.
Undertaken by DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office, the flood control project consists of 988 stone masonry, 124 linear meters of rubble concrete, and 124 lineal meters of metallic-coated gabions.
Local officials have also expressed gratitude for the project’s completion as it would alleviate residents’ concerns during extreme weather conditions, especially fishermen, and safeguard major tourist attractions such as the Tomongtong Mangrove Eco-Trail.
