Shakey’s Pizza’s Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken opens 50th store

Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures, Inc., the Philippines’ leading full-service restaurant chain group, opens its 50th Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken & Sauce Bar store in the country.

In November 2021, the 50th Peri-Peri store opened its doors in Matalino, Quezon City, a thriving residential area and a well-known food hub located in the largest city in Metro Manila. 

Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken & Sauce Bar is Shakey’s second largest chain in the country. The Company acquired Peri-Peri in June 2019, beginning with 23 stores in the Metro. In just 2 years, despite the pandemic, Shakey’s has more than doubled the store network of Peri-Peri. 

Vicente Gregorio, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Shakey’s, said, “We are delighted to open our 50th Peri-Peri Store. Even during this pandemic, the brand has demonstrated strong performance, and all the new stores have received very strong market acceptance. We attribute this to the distinct and very flavorful products we serve and the unique brand experience we provide, whether via dine in or off-premise.” 

Peri-Peri is famous for its juicy and flavorful charcoal grilled chicken and its wide variety of specialty sauces that make use of a distinct African bird’s eye chili called ‘piri-piri’, which releases a fiery spice and helps create a wealth of flavors in every dish. 

The restaurant chain aims to up the ante in dine in experiences with its bright, vibrant and youthful store atmosphere. Peri-Peri has been collaborating with local mural and creative artists, an initiative to simultaneously build sustainable partnerships with communities and establish the value of Peri-Peri as a purveyor of art and creative minds. 

Peri-Peri’s store formats are also especially designed to cater to off-premise dining, part and parcel of Shakey’s strategic pivots during the pandemic. Independent stores offer Park & Order options for carryout. The restaurant chain also includes in its network a roster of Peri Jr. Stores, proven small-store formats that allow the brand to expand its footprint inordinately while minimizing investment and to strengthen its food delivery capability. 

Gregorio added, “Peri-Peri has been enjoying a successful run thus far through its continuous delivery of WOW-ing guest experiences. 

He continued, “As we purposefully grow this brand, the focus is on building our store network and widening our reach to make the brand more accessible to its fast-growing market. This expansion is also timely due to the projected increase in demand once this crisis is over.” 

Shakey’s is doubling down on new store openings in preparation for a reopening, especially with restrictions beginning to ease. Earlier this month, Shakey’s announced that it has opened its 310th store, exceeding its initial target of 30 net new stores for the year. 

Peri-Peri’s 50th store represents the 312th store in Shakey’s entire store network.
