Newly-built access road aids coconut growers in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has assisted the growing coconut industry in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan with the construction of a 123-lineal meter access road leading to coconut growers in the town.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the DPWH Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) implemented the P2-million project, which was funded through the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Based on District Engineer Oscar G. Gumiran’s report, Secretary Villar further said that the completed project along Manila North Road enhances connectivity in the town of Sanchez Mira by serving as an access road between the Barangays of Callugan to Masisit.

DPWH hopes that the provision of the road will bring economic development in the area through employment and business opportunities for the locals, Secretary Villar added.

Focused not only on Sanchez Mira’s budding coconut industry but also on the promotion of other agricultural products in the area, the access road now allows for a more efficient delivery of coconuts products and other farm produce to market centers to neighboring cities and towns.

The project’s completion is a much-needed assistance to the locals, some of whom have lost their jobs because of the pandemic and are just trying find means to support their families.
