DOTr to allow motorcycle taxis on PH streets anew

Motorcycle taxis can resume operations once Congress has passed a resolution that will provide the legal basis for it, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade announced.
This, Tugade said, is based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the Economic Development Cluster (EDC).
Tugade said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) recognizes the big contribution of motorcycle taxis to the country’s transport sector, especially in this time of the pandemic.
He admitted that right now, public transportation is still limited, making it difficult for the public to commute to their destinations.
Tugade said once Congress has passed a resolution allowing motorcycle taxis on Philippine roads anew, the DOTr will immediately move to implement it.
“We will support this once there is a Congress resolution that will serve as the legal basis for us to allow their (motorcycle taxis) operation. We will abide by the directives of the Cabinet, the Congress, and IATF,” Tugade said.
