DTI ties up with Fintech giants to boost E-commerce activities in MIMAROPA

Department of Trade and Industry – MIMAROPA (DTI-MIMAROPA) speeds up digital transformation in the region through a webinar on Digital and Cashless Payment with Globe MyBusiness and Asia United Bank (AUB) for the Negosyo Center Business Counsellors.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the business landscape, making the pace for digital adoption faster. DTI-MIMAROPA clearly acknowledges the role of digitalization towards MSME development, thus the partnership with the experts in the fintech industry to introduce ePayment solutions.

Love Magzoda, Business Development Manager of Globe MyBusiness, discussed how the COVID-19 Pandemic disrupted the major business industries that heavily depended on the face – to – face purchases and transactions. Furthermore, she expounds on the opportunities that opened as digital and contactless payment gained attention and appreciation. The speaker shed light on an alternative business solution – Gcash and MyBiz Wallet and explained how these products can help in the overall business operations (from business payment and transactions up to employee salary and bills payment).

Alfred Paul Paiso, representative from AUB, has introduced the products and business solutions offered by AUB. During his discussion, Mr. Paiso explained how AUB penetrated the digital payments industry through business partnerships with existing industry players. He then directed his discussion on the rising delivery industry and how MSMEs can capitalize on the rapid increase of delivery purchases and transactions. Business ventures with online delivery platforms available in MIMAROPA can contribute to the strengthening of the economy in the said region.

DTI-MIMAROPA Assistant Regional Director Rodolfo Mariposque urged the participants to slowly transition from cash-less transactions especially in paying for Business Name (BN) Registration. In line with this, a day in a week (Wednesday) will be designated as a “Digital Payments only” day wherein payment options for BN transactions shall be cash-less or paid through ePayment methods only.

Negosyo Center Business Counsellors from the provinces of Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, and Romblon, were invited to join the webinar. The Negosyo Center Business Counsellors serve at the forefront of the micro, small, and medium enterprises, thus making them one of the catalysts of the Department for the promotion of E-commerce in the region.

Due to the implementation of strict community health protocols, more consumers and businesses are convinced to try online methods of payment and other E-commerce activities, hence, DTI-MIMAROPA has lined up more activities to establish and promote a thriving digital economy in the region.

The webinar was held on 23 September 2020, via Zoom, a web-based video conferencing tool, and was participated by 31 individuals, composed of Negosyo Center Business Counsellors and DTI representatives. Of the recorded participants, 5 belonged to the DTI-MIMAROPA Regional Office, 10 from DTI-Marinduque, 6 from Occidental Mindoro, 8 from Oriental Mindoro, and two from Romblon.
